Perhaps one of the biggest stories of Day 2 will be the comeback of defending champion of the men's event Carlos Alcaraz.In his first game, the second seeded Spaniard plays Roman Safiullin. Alcaraz is making his return to Grand Slam competition with injury after missing a year and will seek to kick off his title defence with a win.
Safiullin is a tough start to the season on hard-court thanks to his hard-court ability. The matchup has already happened with the two on various surfaces, making the first-round game even more interesting.
Alcaraz will play the second match of Monday's day session on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Aryna Sabalenka begins her US Open 3-peat bid.
On Monday, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will get to defend her title.Sabalenka will play Colombia's Camila Osorio in the first game on Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Belarusian is aiming to win a historic third successive US Open women's singles doubles crown.
The official US Open preview states that Sabalenka has a 2-0 record against Osorio, and a 23-match winning streak in the first round of Grand Slams.
If she wins, Sabalenka will have a shot at becoming the first woman since Serena Williams to secure three straight US Open singles titles.
Iga Swiatek Also Plays on Day 2
Iga Swiatek, former world number one is another big name involved.Swiatek is going to play against Xiyu Wang of China on Louis Armstrong Stadium in the evening session. The match will be one of the main women's events at Arthur Ashe.
Swiatek is in the tournament with the other players who are reportedly in contention for the overall title and will be one of the biggest storylines to watch in the first round.
Ben is the leader of the American Night Session.
American fans will have plenty to keep them entertained late into the night when Tallon Griekspoor is replaced by Ben Shelton.The eighth seed launches his campaign on Arthur Ashe Stadium, where he recently took the win at the Montreal Masters 1000. Shelton also has good memories of the US Open, so the New York fans are a key element of his campaign.

The most surprising of the day was the five-set win of Mariano Navone over Novak Djokovic.Navone won 7-6(5), 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in a match lasting four hours and 36 minutes.
Djokovic had been on a record run seeking his 25th Grand Slam, but his quest was cut short in the first round.
